CWU CELEBRATES FIRST UNION ELECTION VICTORY
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the Congressional Workers Union (CWU) released the following statement after announcing the results of the first union election in a congressional office in the history of the United States Congress. On September 22 and September 23, staff in the Office of Congressman Andy Levin (D-Michigan) voted electronically in their union election. Today, CWU announced that the eligible staff in Rep. Levin’s office voted unanimously to elect CWU as their union.
The Congressional Workers Union also announced upcoming union elections in the offices of Congressman Ro Khanna (D-California) and Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-Minnesota) whose staff will vote electronically in their union election on September 28 and September 29, respectively.
“It is with great pride we announce the landslide union election victory in Congressman Andy Levin’s office,” said the Congressional Workers Union. “While exercising their right to vote, the workers clearly and emphatically expressed their desire to bargain collectively and have a seat at the table to determine workplace conditions and benefits. CWU is ecstatic to support these workers as we move to the bargaining table and negotiate a contract representative of workers’ needs for the first time in congressional history.”
“CWU is also thrilled to announce two more upcoming elections, and energized by the continuous interest in unionization on the Hill. For congressional staff curious about what the power of solidarity and a union can provide you in your office, the Congressional Workers Union stands ready to assist.”
